RIANI ON THE PATH TO EVEN MORE
sustainability
The topic of sustainability has high priority for RIANI. In times of climate change, the premium label prioritises fair manufacture, in addition to inspiring and wearable fashion, in order to produce collections in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way.
These are the first steps in a development that RIANI is promoting with huge commitment.

LOYAL PARTNER
The RIANI Headquarters in Germany has about 130 employees. The prototype workshop is also located there. In addition to onsite production of samples, RIANI maintains long-standing, loyal relationships with producers and suppliers who are largely situated in Europe. This co-operation has been lasting for more than 40 years in some cases.
RIANIs fabric suppliers are mainly from Italy, and the collections’ exclusive prints are made in Italy as well as in Germany.
RIANI Denimware is also made by an Italian sustainable jeans manufacturer – the family-run weaving mill Candiani who is one of the “greenest textile companies in the blue world”. The business has been awarded the Kiotex Save The World Certificate for its constant developments of new, sustainable techniques for the textile washing process and eco-friendly production.

NO MULESING
In the textile industry, mulesing is a method for protecting sheep from flystrike. This is extremely painful for the animals because the skin around the tail is removed. The wound then has to heal by itself.
RIANI foregoes this method and, instead, uses certified Merino Extrafine for its Woolware. This certificate confirms that the bought Merino Extrafine is 100% mulesing-free.

ECO-FRIENDLY MATERIAL
The most important trouser quality frequently employed by RIANI is GOTS-certified (Global Organic Textile Standard) and made using organic cotton yarn.
EcoVero viscose provided by the Lenzing Group is used for RIANIs NOS quality. It is made with certified, renewable sources of wood and is subject to an environmentally friendly manufacturing process.
When selecting fabric suppliers, RIANI pays close attention to sustainable production that guarantees, for example, limited use of heavy fuel oil, recycling of waste and minimal CO2 emissions. The carefully chosen fabrics are all OEKO-certified and REACH-tested.
We increasingly guarantee the use of European fibres and jerseys made of 100% lyocell, a fibre produced with purely organic solvents. This currently includes Portuguese Jerseyware and Italian Weaveware.

RECYCLED MATERIAL
RIANI also uses recycled cotton and recycled polyester.
The covers for all garments are 100% recycled polyester and biodegradable plastics composed of polymers.
100% reconditioned cotton can already be seen in the new RIANI collection – sustainable yet stylish!

SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT
Our giveaway for the RIANI fashion show in January 2020 was created in co-operation with the non-profit manufacturer Zauberfaden, and sewn from the fabrics used in previous collections.
“Pre-consumer fabrics” are used here, which means fabrics that were produced but not processed into garments.
